Thank you for taking the time to visit our site and check out our Blog! Ryan and I are new at this, so please excuse our novice. We are excited to share our passion of keeping all home owners safe, with you! As a husband and wife team, we have been working very hard on building our business and marketing it in the most efficient ways. From the research we have done, one of the top ways to market a small business is to keep a blog. Although we are new at blogging, we will give it our best to share our experience and knowledge with everyone willing to read it.
To start off, I would like to introduce myself to you! My name is Melissa. I am 33 years old, a very proud wife, mother to four fur babies, and a dedicated small business owner. I enjoy cooking, gardening, and camping. I grew up in Manitou Springs, Colorado as a preacher's daughter. I first met my husband, Ryan, in the 7th grade. We dated for about a week, went to a middle school dance together, and then I dumped him. I know, not nice. But he doesn't remember anyways, so it couldn't have been too heart breaking! We then re-connected after i graduated college through mutual friends. It was love at first sight, again, and we have been inseparable ever since.
Ryan has been an over-the-road trucker for the entirety of our relationship. When we dated, I went on the truck with him for 6 months. We drove coast to coast several times in the space the size of a small bathroom. To say the least, we got to know each other really well. It was our time on the truck that got us talking a lot about our dreams and goals for the future. Something we both had in common was that we both wanted to be small business owners. At that point, we were not sure what type of business we wanted, we just knew that we would be most happy working for ourselves and serving others.
After we married in 2013, we bought our first house. We looked at several homes, and eventually found the perfect one for us. It was the perfect location, just the right size, and up to that point the biggest investment we were about to make. We were a little unsure about the home-buying process and really weren't aware that we needed a home inspection. To be honest, I didn't even know what it was for. But it was recommended by our Realtor, so we went along with it and got a home inspection from a franchise company.
When we went out to the house for the home inspection, both Ryan and I were excited to see what they were checking for. They checked for things that I never would have asked about. They explained all of the main systems of the house to us, and made sure that we understood what we needed to do to keep our new home safe and maintained. If it wasn't for them, I would never know that i could turn up the heat on the water heater, or to clean out our dryer vent to avoid fires! We were both very appreciative of their service and their expertise to ensure we were making the right decision in purchasing the home.
After we moved in, we both knew that our dream of owning a small business was destined to be in the home inspection industry. Ryan was always a great handyman. and becoming a home owner boosted his knowledge and capabilities. As for me, I have always been in the customer service field. I love taking care of people. It was a perfect fit for me to use my skills to help other home buyers and sellers to feel comfortable with one of the biggest decisions they can make.
We dove right in. Ryan became certified with the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors. He completed more than 30 certifications and uncountable hours of study and examinations. We built our business from the ground up and have been diligent to do what we can to share our passion with our clients.
We both know that this first year will probably be one of the hardest. But we have done well so far and have faith that we will be successful in all of our endeavors. I plan to keep this blog going with the experiences we encounter, whether it be a challenge of the business or reason to celebrate our dreams coming true! Thank you again for reading this. I hope that it is a good first start.
Until next time,
